Wade Lyons is a respected public safety professional, investigator, and business leader with nearly two decades of experience serving communities and building trust through accountability and leadership. Beginning his career with the City of Austin in 2006, Wade rose through the ranks of the Austin Police Department, where he worked in Patrol, Risk Management, Investigations, Street Narcotics, Strategic Intelligence, and Recruiting. As Training Division Commander, he directed training, recruiting, and hiring for more than 2,300 sworn and civilian employees, shaping the future of the department through mentorship, strategic planning, and innovation. Today, Wade is the Chief Executive Officer of Black Onyx Investigations, LLC, a private security and investigations firm he founded in 2024. Under his leadership, the company is expanding its services to include executive protection, offering clients trusted expertise grounded in years of operational and investigative experience. Wade’s philosophy emphasizes servant leadership, integrity, and building authentic connections with both employees and the public. Wade holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Lamar University and is pursuing his MBA there, with completion expected in 2025. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Community Health from Texas A&M University and completed executive education at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government as well as leadership training with FBI-LEEDA. An active member of IACP, NOBLE, and ICMA, Wade continues to contribute to national conversations on law enforcement, leadership, and community collaboration.
